Besides almost always looking very nice and having a positive effect upon the initial rections of others to the user, Gems and Jewlery can contain many powerful magical dweomers. Likely among the most famous of these is the Brooch of Shielding, one of the few items in the game capable of blocking the ever popular Magic Missile Spell. While this is certainly useful, lesser magics have their place in this category as well. Imagine for a moment a King who has a problem with his citizens paying their taxes in counterfeit coin. To combat this problem he orders his court wizard to create a magical pendant the will turn any phony currency or gem to dust when the two come into contact....

Gem of Immovability
(Immovable Paperweight)
This piece is actually a large finely cut piece of Onyx. Anything it is placed on top of will never blow away, resisting natural winds of up to 300 miles per hour!! Magically created winds (eg Gust of Wind) have their normal effect.
Necklace of Cleanliness The wearer of this necklace will always appear to be wearing a set of finely made clean clothing no matter how dirty his actual clothes may become. Any adverse odors are masked as well.
Eye of the Eagle This small crystal is a very limited form of crystal ball. It always shows the same location, which is chosen at the time the item is created. While this may seem useless at first glance, it can be a very interesting way for the DM to introduce a new adventure; or perhaps it will reveal some bit of information that others would rather keep secret....
Torc of Seamanship This simple copper torc protects the wearer from the effects of sea-sickness, allowing him or her to function normally on any boat or ship. The item does not confer the ability to swim, or prevent the fear of water (hydrophobia).
