Potions can be a tricky category to tame. Most potions are not extremely powerful to begin with, and as such tend to be looked upon as "Lesser Magical Items". I have found two ways of creating domesticated potions however, the first is to limit the effects of an existing potion even further. The second (and admittedly more fun) idea is to create a new potion from scratch. There are two tables below, each one represents a different category of potion.

Item Name Item Description Item History
Potion of Purple Hues This is a limited type of potion of rainbow hues. The user may become any shade of purple (or whatever other color the DM decides) he desires, and he will remain that color for as long as he continues to concentrate upon it.
Potion of Minor Healing This tiny draught will heal 1d3+1 hit points of damage when quaffed completely. Partial doses have no effect.
Elixir of Medication This limited form of the Elixir of Health can cure minor ailments such as the common cold, or the flu. It also will alleviate the symptoms of drunkeness, and prevent the drinker from waking up hung-over.
Oil of Limited Etherealness Objects and creatures coated in this substance are not actually ethereal, but they can see into the ethereal plane. With a lot of concentrated effort, the user may pass through solid matter, but to do so he must sacrifice all other actions in that round. When moving in this fashion, the user's movement rate drops to 1 regardless of any other bonuses.

Potion of Symmetry The user of this potion will be able to judge without error where the exact center of any object or area lies. This sort of skill is invaluable to engineers and the like.
Philter of Survival The user of this draught will immediately know the location of the nearest sheltered area, and will be able to find roots and berries sufficient to feed two people. In game terms, the user gains the survival proficiency with a check of 15 for 1d6+2 turns. The first ceck against this score is automatically successful.
Oil of the Airless Fire When un-corked, the oil in this flask will burn brightly for 8 hours providing light equal to torchlight. The fire will burn in any condtions, including complete vacuum or under water.
Potion of Crystal Growth The liquid in this vial will solidify after 1 round in contact with air creating small rounded rock-like bits. These are excellent for marking trails, and can even be used as ammunition for a sling in a pinch.
