The Bright Jewel of Waterdeep

Essential Statistics:
Description:Longsword +2 (+5) Command Word:Cleansing Flames
Alignment:Lawful Neutral Communication:Speach&Telepathy
XP Value:29,700 GP Value:63,600
Intelligence:17 Ego:37

This weapon appears to all tests to be a rather large longsword, however, she can still be weilded in one hand, as per a normal longsword. The sword acts as a longsword (+2), except on nights with a new moon, when she is longsword (+5). At the utterance of the command word, an emerald green flame licks up and down the blade. This causes double damage against undead, and quadruple damage on a critical hit. On nights of a new moon, this flame repels lesser undead (4 or less hit dice) as if they were turned. Also, when the flames are active, stabbing the sword into the heart of a just killed regenerating creature stops the regeneration process for 1d6 days. Repeating the command word terminates the flames. They cannot be called forth again for six hours.

The Sword will read magic and/or read languages on command. Should a written language that the sword has never seen before be encountered, she has a 70% chance of interpreting the language. Unfortunately, asking the sword to read a scroll will cause the scroll to go off as though it were being used normally. The sword must choose any variables. (Range, target, etc.) Note that since this is an intelligent weapon, the DM must play the role of the sword.

While unsheathed, the sword produces light as bright as day. This light extends in a 15-foot radius around the weilder, but cannot penetrate or even neutralize magical darkness. The weapon creates over possesiveness of itself, and thus the owner may never again weild another weapon. She is extremely egotistical, and must be kept happy or she won't function properly. The sword expects her share of treasure from every adventure, and may never be placed in a sheath, even when the owner is asleep. Until the current owner is dead, no other being may so much as touch the sword. Anyone doing so takes 10d6 damage from a protective lightning bolt spell. When an owner dies, he or she is entombed within the blade, and may never be resurrected.

As the sword draws her power from the dark portion of Selune, she will only function on Abeir-Toril. Even on another planet or plane, however, the owner may not use any other weapon. The sword is just a normal longsword in these places.
