The Festivals of the Dales

The Feast of the Moon

<BGSOUND src="#">

The Feast of the Moon is the last of the five major festivals throughout the realms each year. It is a time of remembrance of the year gone by. The feast occurs between Uktar (November) and Nightal (December), and never lasts more than one day.

The Feast of the Moon, or Moonfest, honors the dead as well as the heroic among the living. Graves are blessed by all faiths, and the Ritual of Remembrance is performed. The ritual itself is not some major magical event as the name might suggest, but meerly a time for bards to sing the deeds of those now gone, and to tell tales of great treasures and lost cities. If any man is looking for work on this night, at least as an adventurer, he'll likely find more than he can handle by nights end.

Moonfest is also usually a very cold night, and official marks the start of winter, for as many years as any human can remember, the first snows always come on the Feast of the Moon, or shortly thereafter.

Wars are also often, albiet not always, fought around this time, continuing only as long as good weather maintains itself. No one enjoys a seige in the snow. The vast majority of the fighting takes place in Uktar (November), and so the Feast of the Moon is an ironically practical event for those involved. There are may dead to be honored after any war.
